Yetunde: The Life and Times of a Yoruba girl in London by Segilola Salami is a West African folktale that highlights the love shared between a mother and daughter. Yetunde does not speak English very well – she is more familiar with Yoruba – and in this story she shares her day to day life in London with readers. Each chapter ends with a story told by her mother, which has an interesting moral too. These simple stories are educational and informative to readers and will guide them to learn more about the importance of morals, values, and ethics. The story also introduces kids to another culture and language.

I found the book adorable and children will love Yetunde and the stories. The illustrations are delightful and will leave readers wishing for more. These stories are a good way to teach kids about values and morals in life. It’s an excellent bedtime storybook for parents and grandparents to read to kids. The book can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries.

Stories that convey morals and messages are good for young readers as they can understand the message and the concept when narrated with the help of a story and pictures. Yetunde’s life is tangible and kids can relate well to it. The book is unique and original with the idea of sharing life’s first lessons with readers in an engaging way.
